review ||| Ynaktera + Kenta Kamiyama : Notturno

a golden resonance laying on a warm beach somewhere
languid summer hues dream outward
and the sun bathes me in luminance
but as night descends, the wind turns cold
the sea tries to drown me
but i am senseless and unbound.

review ||| faint glow : beneath an ice sky

faint glow : beneath an ice sky

impressions:
spacescapes burning into my retinas

Info:
faint glow is the space themed dark ambient project Kansas artist Jeff Winter.  I’ve released several eps by him on my Bicephalic Records label. His Bandcamp page contains a vast expanse of deep listening voyages to take.  And he has another project called Gaint Flow which I think is hilarious.

review ||| head dress : rose

head dress : rose

impressions:
it’s nighttime and raining in the city
this tape is the shroud of an anxious mind lying awake amid heavy thoughts

info:
Head Dress is the solo project of Ted James Butler.  He also runs the cassette tape podcast Norelco Mori. He has a bunch of tape releases put out by various fantastic labels.  I haven’t even begun exploring all of them yet.

review ||| brainchai | ilkae : athena

Brainchai / Ilkae : Athena

impressions:
this is the soundtrack to my body metabolizing concrete dust and battery acid

information:
This is a another release that I just stumbled upon while perusing Bandcamp. That happens a lot.  There is so much good music to be discovered! This was released on the Field Hymns label in 2015.

review ||| IXTAB : voice-hand

IXTAB : Voice-Hand

impressions:
sounds like a creature made of dulled static tap dancing in the streets.
deep-listening pellets of distortion are being shoved beneath my skin and it makes me want to dance.

information:
I came upon this release through the excellent Tymbal Tapes label.  The label has a consistently interesting visual style (all of the artworks are created by the same artist).  The artwork on this one reminds me of an old Butthole Surfers T-Shirt I used to have.  Anyway, I don’t know anything about IXTAB other than that they are a duo. I just stumbled upon this release while perusing the label’s page.

review ||| b. burroughs : paraded and thus; my hair has held all the smells of your body

B. Burroughs : paraded and thus; my hair has held all the smells of your body

impressions:
long night hiding beneath the floorboards.
berserker & time swallower slipping down the great water hall

information:
I discovered B.Burroughs through her association with the Amok label. According to the label it was all recorded and mixed onto 4-track. This is the only release of hers that I’ve really dug into. I should really check out more of her work it seems.

coyote image medicinals

impressions:
this sounds like being lost in the woods on a sunny autumn day

information:
This is a small run 3-inch cd release brought into being by the extremely prolific and talented duo of Grant and Rachel Evans.  They have run label(s) such as Adversary and they have put out countless releases under various solo and collaborative guises.  Of their projects, Motion Sickness of Time Travel is personal favorite.
